How we work as speech and language therapists
We work closely with children, parents, and settings to provide support that is practical, flexible, and child-centred. We start by getting to know your child through assessment and observation, identifying their strengths as well as the areas where they may need support. From this, we create a clear and personalised therapy plan with achievable goals.
Therapy sessions are designed to be fun, motivating, and meaningful, helping children feel confident while developing their communication skills. We place a strong focus on supporting parents and carers, providing advice, activities, and resources that can be used at home to help progress continue between sessions.
Where appropriate, we work alongside schools and nurseries, offering guidance and recommendations so that strategies can be used consistently across environments. Our aim is to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time, in a way that works best for them and their family.
Scheduling
Ready to start your child’s speech and language journey? Simply contact the team using whichever method feels most convenient for you.
We aim to return your call within a week to arrange a free, no-obligation conversation about your child’s speech, language and communication needs.
During this discussion, Helen or Kate will use their clinical expertise to guide you on the most appropriate next steps.
If you choose to proceed, take a look at our Pay What You Can initiative. This allows you to select a payment level that suits your family’s budget and what feels manageable for you.
When the terms and conditions, consent form and your agreed payment have been returned and paid we will go ahead and book the agreed assessment:
Brief Assessment This will include:
- Parental discussion and case history taking.
- 1 hour informal/ formal assessment session.
- Summary report including recommendations for next steps
Full Assessment This will include:
- Parental discussion and case history taking.
- Informal/ formal assessment session (this may be over 1-2 sessions as appropriate).
- 1 hour visit to nursery/school observation of child and liaison with teachers.
- Detailed report including recommendations for next steps
Once your child’s assessment has taken place, therapy sessions are planned in a way that works best for your child and your family.
Sessions are usually:
- Booked regularly (for example, weekly or fortnightly)
- On the same day and time each therapy block, where possible, to help with routine and consistency
- Arranged for home, clinic or school/nursery (depending on your package and what works best)
- Sessions are conducted with the same Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) or Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to maintain continuity of care. This approach helps build strong relationships and ensures therapy is fun , motivational and personalized for your child.
